From 1985 to 1986 she studied at the Lviv State University. From 1986 to 1990 - at the History Department of Moscow State University. Next at the Department of Southern and Western Slavs. At 1990-1991 - postgraduate training program of Institute of Social Sciences under the CPSU Central Committee. Afterwards from 1991 to 1993 - Postgraduate training program at the Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Moscow State Institute of Political Science. Moreover at 1995 she defended her thesis on "The disintegration of the Yugoslav model of federalism."
Since 1994 she worked at the Department of Political Science at MGIMO. From 1998 to 2012 - Professor of the Department of Comparative Politics, since 2012 - Professor of Comparative Politics at MGIMO (U). From 2000 to 2007 - Senior Researcher at INION. In 2002 Ponomareva E.G. awarded the title of associate professor. In 2010 she defended her doctoral dissertation: "Formation of statehood in the post-Yugoslavian space: the internal and external factors."
Scientific interests:
Political processes in Russia, in the countries of South-Eastern Europe and Central Asia, political cultures and political systems of transit companies, the transformation of sovereignty and statehood issues, to the ethno-political conflicts and ethnic and religious component.
