Russia and Turkey: mutual understanding through philosophy and literature

May 24-28, 2015 the University of Suleyman Shah (Istanbul, Turkey) hosted III Meeting of Russian and Turkish Philosophers. The meeting, organized by MIRNaS, Russian Academy of Sciences Institute of Philosophy and the University of Suleyman Shah, was attended by over 30 scientists of the two countries.

The opening of the meeting was made by the rector of Suleyman Shah University Professor, Dr. Hüseyin Ekiz and Abdusalam Abdulkerimovich Guseinov, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the famous Turkish philosopher Hilmi Yavuz.

On the Turkish side of the event, the theme of which sounded "Philosophy and Literature: Philosophy in literature, literature in philosophy ", was attended by leading professors of universities in the country: Istanbul University, Istanbul University of Civilizations, University of Suleyman Shah, Galatasaray Universities, Marmara, Yeditepe, Kırklareli. The Russian delegation at the meeting was also attended by: S.A. Nikolsky, Deputy Director of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, V.N. Porus, Head of Philosophy Research Department of Higher School of Economics, R.G. Apresyan, Head of Sector at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, A.V. Smirnov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Philosophy of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences Institute of Philosophy, B.I. Pruzhinin, editor in chief of the "Problems of Philosophy" journal and other representatives of the academic and Moscow university research groups.

The most discussed topic of the forum was to analyze various aspects of the philosophy of Lev Tolstoy, including his philosophical origins ‘Hadji Murat’. Among the other significant reports. Date of relevance to the modern world: ‘The philosophical interpretation of ‘death’and ‘destiny’ in the works of Russian writers’, ‘Philosophy and the Modern World’ and ‘Understanding as a theme philosophy of literature.’ Turkish delegation raised such topics as ‘The Influence of Philosophy Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the West’, ‘Philosophia perennis Is Possible’, ‘Philosophy in the Islamic world.’ III meeting of philosophers, providing rich intellectual space for the exchange of opinions contributed to the forming of ‘bridges of understanding’ between the two countries.

In his closing remarks, Director General of MIRNaS Arif Asalyoglu noted traditionally high level of the meetings and fruitful discussions. Organizers intend to continue the dialogue started in different formats: round tables, conferences in the next IV meeting of the Russian and Turkish philosophers.
